SUNDANCE handmade buckskin bag

£160.00

The SUNDANCE bag is made from reused leather and suede from vintage jackets, old sofas and used hides.

The Sundance boho bag is a stunningly simple handmade bag with a long strap to wear cross body or tie up to make a short shoulder bag. it is the ultimate boho bag.

Beautiful vintage buckskin leather that came from a vintage 70’s oversized jacket. Taken apart and re used to make this gorgeous SUNDANCE bag and a matching EASY RIDER waistcoat.

Super soft cross body bag with oodles of fringing and handmade vintage charm. Front fastening with a naturally salvaged antler tip and inner pocket. Big enough for small personal items but not too big to get in the way. Perfect for that 70’s laid back casual style.

Width 27cm

Length 32cm

In total with strap 96cm

Making my own bag is where EL HOBO all started. I couldn’t find the sort of bag I wanted so decided to make my own. So many people comment and ask me where I got it and if I would make one for them. The SUNDANCE bag was my first design,a crossbody bag with long tassels and no metal clasps or fastenings. The design is really simple, made up of two pieces incorporating the strap into the body therefore less seams. The fringing panels are added to the seams and a front closure flap if needed. I don’t line the bags as when the leather is soft they hang and move better without it.

I use secondhand leather taken from old coats and discarded leather sofas. The sofas have a wealth of good useable leather that has a fabulous lived in look from years of use. I also like to use many other used textiles such as crochet, patchwork and rugs to make bags. Rugs make great bags as they are strong and durable and have fabulous texture.

HOW THEY ARE MADE

I have an Industrial walking foot sewing machine. That can cope with all the leather and strong textiles that I use. Hand stitching some of the leather bags as this adds to the ‘handmade look’. I have metal stamps to create patterns and leather paint to add designs. Leather is used to whipstitch edges and I cut all my own fringing and tassels.
